Nigeria Police Force made a significant move to curb electoral violence in Edo State by arresting two political thugs, Edwin Obanor and Audu Tajudeen, in overnight raids.
Gatekeepers News reports that the individuals were caught with locally made firearms, including three cut-to-size pistols and one gun, after police received a tip-off about plans to cause chaos during the election.
Obanor, 43, was apprehended at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 pm, while Tajudeen, 41, a PDP member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, was arrested on the eve of the election.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi in Abuja on Saturday, noted that: “These arrests are a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The police and other supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State.”
The police have assured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through their published helplines.
