As the Edo governorship election commences today, security personnel have mounted roadblocks across Benin City to ensure security, law, and order.

Gatekeepers News reports that the roadblocks were set up as early as 6:00 a.m., with security personnel stopping and searching vehicles, as well as questioning occupants, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The popular Ring Road saw a notable military presence, particularly at Sapele Road, Forestry Junction, and Sapele Road axes, with an armoured tank stationed at the city centre.

Also security personnel were deployed to Okida Road, Ekewaun Road, and the INEC office at Ikpoba Hill.

Some commercial bus drivers attempted to evade questioning by avoiding the roadblocks, but security officials remained vigilant.

Despite the heightened security, there were few vehicular movements, with some individuals, likely voters, walking along the roads.
