Flood: Sokoto Govt Donates N20m – 1000 Mats – Blankets To 600 Displaced Households

Sokoto State government has donated N20 million and 1,000 mats and blankets to 600 affected by flood in Illela Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that Press Secretary to Sokoto state Governor, Abubakar Bawa announced this through a statement released on Tuesday.

Chairman of the area, Sirajo Shehu MaiBala revealed the number of affected people while briefing Gov. Ahmed Aliyu when he visited the flooded areas and the displaced communities.

According to him, the devastating floods occurred on the 3rd of August and affected over 600 households in the area.

The chairman added that the displaced people are taking refuge in schools, and filling stations in the area.

He appreciated the Governor for the assessment visit, which he said would further rekindle the hope of the displaced persons of getting assistance from the state government.

Speaking, Gov. Ahmed Aliyu commiserated with the displaced persons and the entire Illela community over the devastating floods that ravaged the area.

He said, “What i have seen in Illela is unbelievable, the flood waters are just too much.”

“I want to assure you that the state government would come to the aid of the affected families so as to make their lives meaningful.”

The Governor, who visited one of the displaced camps in Illela Secondary School, also directed the immediate repairs of the school which is in a state of disrepair.

He restated his administration’s commitment to making educational institutions comfortable for teaching and learning.

Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa announced a cash donation of N20 million by the state government as well as N10 million from Sen.Aliyu Wamakko.

Other items donated to the flood victims by the state government included 1000 pieces of mats and blankets each, as well as 1 truck of rice.

Highlight of the occasion was the flagging off of the distribution of the relief materials to the affected communities.
