Two people died while two others went missing due to the flood that occurred in parts of Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Tuesday.
Gatekeepers News reports that National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) disclosed this through a statement released by its South West zonal coordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Kadiri.
The disclosure came after NEMA and Red Cross teams conducted a flood assessment of the affected areas on Wednesday.
Many people were displaced, and buildings, shops, and properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed as a result of the flood.
Kadiri revealed that the flood affected Ibadan South West and Oluyole local government areas (LGA) of the state capital.
He urged residents of the state to take proactive steps as the rainy season was still ongoing.
The statement goes, “Following the heavy downpour that led to flash flood in Ibadan South-West and Oluyole Local Government Areas of Oyo State which occured on 24th September, 2024.”
“The NEMA South West Zonal Office in collaboration with Oyo SEMA and Nigeria Red Cross Society carried out an on the spot assessment of the affected communities.”
“The flood disaster affected residential buildings, shops and properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed; many persons were also displaced.”
“Unfortunately, two deaths were recorded while two persons are still missing.”
“The South West zonal coordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Kadiri sympathizes with the affected persons and enjoins people to take proactive measures in this raining season.”
