Former Taraba State governor Darius Ishaku and ex-permanent secretary Bello Yero were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday.

Gatekeepers News reports that they faced a 15-count charge related to criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, and conversion of public funds amounting to N27 billion.

Both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution sought an accelerated trial, while the defense made oral bail applications, which the prosecution opposed.

The presiding judge adjourned the matter till October 3 for a hearing on bail applications and ordered the defendants to be remanded in EFCC’s custody.

Ishaku served as governor from 2015 to 2023 and was previously invited by the EFCC in July 2023 for questioning related to financial matters during his administration.

Both Ishaku and Yero were arrested and detained by the commission on September 27, 2024.
