Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has directed the prompt removal of police officers who were stationed at the secretariats of the 23 local government areas (LGA) in Rivers State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement released on Monday, said the move was in strict compliance with the IGP’s orders.
Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Bala Mustapha also directed the immediate unsealing of the twenty- three (23) local government secretariats in the state, which were sealed since July due to tensions arising from the tenure extension of the previous chairmen.
The police officers were responsible for ensuring security at the facilities to uphold order during the political crisis.
Iringe-Koko noted that the decision showcases Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to political impartiality and the effective operation of democratic institutions.
