Upper house of assembly has passed a vote of confidence in its leader, Godswill Akpabio.
Gatekeepers News reports that this came after false reports stating that there was a ploy to remove Akpabio from office went around on Wednesday.
The vote of confidence was passed after the senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi raised the motion.
Before the motion, senator representing Kebbi North, Yahaya Abdullahi said his privilege had been breached because northern senators were allegedly behind the move to remove the senate president.
The senator said there has not been any attempt by any northern senator to challenge the good works of Akpabio.
He said, “I am a northern senator and my privilege has been breached by these allegations.”
“I am a senior member of this chamber and member of the Northern Senators Forum, I can tell you that there is no attempt that I know of by a caucus or any group among the northern senators.”
The senators then said they were not comfortable with Akpabio’s leadership and would confront him.
Ningi said, “I move that we impose a vote of confidence in you as the senate president and the deputy senate president and the entire leadership of the national assembly in this regard.”
His motion was put to a voice vote by the senate President and was adopted.
