Recent rumors circulating in the media about the death of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, have been addressed.
According to a senior Army official who spoke to Gatekeepers News, General Lagbaja is alive and currently receiving medical treatment abroad.
The official confirmed that he had a conversation with Lagbaja just moments before Gatekeepers News reached out for clarification.
In response to concerns over a potential leadership vacuum resulting from Lagbaja’s absence, Army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu emphasized that the Nigerian Army is functioning smoothly. He stated that Lagbaja is officially on leave and that Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), has been designated to act in his stead.
Nwachukwu reassured the public that all routine and scheduled operations within the Army are proceeding as planned, with departmental leaders carrying out their responsibilities according to directives from the Chief of Army Staff.
He urged the public to dismiss the circulating rumors and expressed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its ongoing service.
