Supreme Court Reserves Judgment In Suit Challenging EFCC’s Constitutionality

Supreme Court has reserved judgment on a case involving 16 states contesting the constitutionality of the laws that established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), among others.

Gatekeepers News reports that the court has reserved its judgment for a future date yet to be communicated to the involved parties.

During the hearing on Tuesday, states such as Imo, Bauchi, and Osun joined the lawsuit as co-plaintiffs. Conversely, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Adamawa states opted to withdraw their cases, leading to the court striking them out.

Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), represented the defence and requested the court’s permission to submit a process filed that morning.

Justice Uwani Abba-Aji subsequently granted permission for the defendant to present the reply on legal points submitted on Tuesday.
