Nigerian comedian, Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi popularly known as Mr Jollof’s wife, Esinjemiyotan has filed an N500 million defamation lawsuit against self-acclaimed activist, Martins Vincent Otse aka VeryDarkMan.
Gatekeepers News reports that the comedian revealed this through an Instagram post on Tuesday.
The suit dated 27 September is a response to alleged defamatory posts made by VeryDarkMan on Instagram between 15 and 19 September.
VDM alleged that Esinjemiyotan used promiscuous means to help her husband secure his appointment as senior special assistant (SSA) on new media to Delta state Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
The self-acclaimed activist also accused the comedian’s wife of having an affair with an internet fraudster at a hotel in Delta.
Responding to the allegations, Prime Chambers, Esinjemiyotan’s legal team issued a statement denying them, saying it is an “intentional attempt to tarnish our client’s reputation.0
The legal team added that the allegations have subjected Esinjemiyotan to “insults and degrading comments” on social media.
Esinjemiyotan thereby sought N500 million in damages for the “harm caused to her reputation and business.”
The law firm asked that the court declare VeryDarkMan’s publications between September 15 and 19 “defamatory.”
It asked the court for an order directing the activist to publicly apologise in at least two national newspapers and on all his social media platforms.
The legal team also sought a perpetual injunction preventing the activist from making further defamatory statements about the comedian’s wife, either directly or through any associates.
The suit reads, “An order of this Honourable Court directing the Defendant to pay the sum of N500,000,000.00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) as general damages.”
“An order directing the Defendant to publish an apology to the Claimant in two national dailies and all his social media handles. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from further making any defamatory publication against the Claimant.”
VDM reacted to the lawsuit by taking to Mr Jollof’s comment section on Wednesday, calling him “mumu”, meaning fool.
He wrote, “You be mumu.”
