Ekiti State Judiciary has confirmed the death of the state’s Chief Justice, Oyewole Adeyeye.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Chief Registrar, Adegoke Olanike, in a statement signed by the Judiciary’s Public Relations Officer, Olayiwola Michael, said Adeyeye died after a brief illness.
The statement reads, “It is with profound sadness that the Chief Registrar of Ekiti State Judiciary, Adegoke Olanike, Esq., announces the passing of Ekiti State Chief Judge, Hon Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, after a brief illness.
“The late Chief Judge was a respected jurist who dedicated his life to upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and justice.
“His contribution to the development of the judiciary and Ekiti State at large is immeasurable, and his legacy will be deeply missed.
“Further details will be announced in due course”.
Adeyeye was sworn in as Chief Judge (CJ) on October 11, 2021, by former Governor Kayode Fayemi. He was born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, located in the Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State, and was called to the bar in 1986.
The late Chief Judge began his career as a state counsel in the civil service of the old Ondo State. He later joined the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission shortly after the state was created in 1996. In 2002, he was elevated to the position of judge in the Ekiti State High Court and served on various election petition tribunals over the years.
