Hadiza, the wife of Nasir el-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna state, has engaged in a public exchange with her son, Bashir el-Rufai, regarding criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Gatekeepers News reports that the discussion took place on social media platform X, where Bashir accused Tinubu’s media team of exhibiting “mental illness” in their response to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comments.

Obasanjo, on Sunday, referred to the 2023 elections as a “travesty” and emphasised the need for appointing credible leaders to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to help restore integrity and public trust.

In response to Obasanjo’s remarks, the presidency expressed its outrage, questioning Obasanjo’s credibility to make such statements.

Bayo Onanuga, the spokesperson for President Tinubu, criticised Obasanjo, asserting that he oversaw the most fraudulent election in Nigeria’s history and that subsequent governments have struggled with the economic management decisions made during his tenure.

In his critical post, Bashir labelled Tinubu’s media team as “ineffectual clowns,” citing rising inflation at 33 percent as a pressing issue that overshadowed the attack on Obasanjo.

Hadiza responded by questioning whether Bashir would “be saying this if your father were part of this government?”

Bashir replied that his father “would have resigned by now due to the failure of the administration” and would have “dissociated” himself from it.
