Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the swearing-in of three judges who were not appointed by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.
Gatekeepers News reports that the judges – Ojo Maureen Osa, Godwin Jeff Okundamiya, and Edoghogho Eboigbe – were among eight candidates recommended for appointment by the National Judicial Council in June 2023.
Obaseki, however, appointed five of the eight judges in May 2024, leaving the three unappointed.
Governor Okpebholo, shortly after assuming office, instructed the Chief Judge of the state, Daniel Okungbowa, to investigate the reasons behind the previous administration’s decision not to appoint these judges.
According to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, the swearing-in ceremony for the three judges is scheduled for today, December 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the State Executive Council Chambers located in Government House, Benin City.
