Adetunji Adeleye, the Ondo State commander of the South-West security network known as Amotekun, announced that the organisation has successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of kidnapping, as well as 19 other criminals, over a period of 14 days across 18 Local Government Areas in the State.
Gatekeepers News reports that Adeleye, during a press conference in Akure, the state capital, disclosed that the other suspects were arrested for various offences, including robbery, theft, housebreaking, and motorcycle theft.
He also urged residents to verify that their second-hand purchases come with the proper receipts to prevent inadvertently buying stolen goods.
“We have three suspects arrested for kidnapping, two arrested for suspected robbery, and one suspect for burglary and stealing of household items,” Adeleye said.
“Two suspects were apprehended for burglary and stealing of electronics. We have three suspects for conspiracy, burglary, and stealing.
“For breaking and entering of houses, we have four suspects and five other suspects for stealing of copper wire, motorcycles, sewing machines, and cables.”
He stated that the command had deployed 1,200 personnel across the 18 LGAs of the state.
He added that the command in collaboration with other security agencies had mapped out strategies to ensure that the influx of visitors did not increase the crime rate in the state.
Adeleye also advised members of the public to be wary of visitors allowed into their privacy.
“We will continue to work around the clock to ensure the safety of lives and property during this yuletide period,” he added.
“What you will observe in a couple of days from now is the presence of Amotekun men at strategic locations and black spots everywhere within the 18 local governments.
“This will no doubt curtail the excesses of these criminals.”
