Three people, including a teacher and student, have been confirmed dead and six injured after a shooting at a school in the US state of Wisconsin.

Gatekeepers News reports a juvenile suspect is also among the dead following the attack at Abundant Life Christian School in the state’s capital, Madison, according to the city’s police chief, Shon Barnes.

US media has reported the suspected attacker, who was already dead when officers arrived, was a female student at the school.

The shooting was confined to one part of the school, and a handgun was used.

Police are interviewing witnesses and students to unravel a motive for the incident.

Reacting, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers says “there are no words to describe the devastation and heartbreak” the state is experiencing after the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School this morning.

He confirmed the US and Wisconsin flags will be flow at “half-staff across the state immediately until sunset on Sun., Dec. 22, 2024”.

“As a father, a grandfather, and as governor, it is unthinkable that a kid or an educator might wake up and go to school one morning and never come home,” Evers says.

“This should never happen, and I will never accept this as a foregone reality or stop working to change it.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to “act now” and protect children from “this scourge of gun violence”
