Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has celebrated the appointment of Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche MFR, mni, as the new Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement, Ambassador EO Okafor mni, President of AANI, expressed heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the National Executive Council, National Executive Committee, and the entire AANI family.

Nwakuche’s appointment has been lauded as a well-deserved recognition of his years of dedication and service.

AANI commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his commitment to meritocracy, highlighting the president’s initiative to place qualified AANI members in key positions within his administration.

Born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche brings over three decades of experience in corrections, having begun his career in the Nigerian Correctional Service in 1990 as an Assistant Superintendent of Corrections. His ascent through the ranks exemplifies his dedication to the field, leadership capabilities, and professionalism.

Nwakuche holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Calabar, a Master of Science in Political Science (International Relations) from the University of Lagos, and a diploma in French Language. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Security and Strategic Studies.

Throughout his career, Nwakuche has held various significant roles, including serving as Technical Assistant to the Presidency on Correctional Service Matters and as Deputy Controller-General for Training and Staff Development. His impactful leadership has been instrumental in capacity-building within the service, providing personnel with essential skills to navigate contemporary challenges in corrections management. His exemplary service has earned him the distinguished national honor of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

As he steps into this pivotal role, expectations are high for Nwakuche to reshape the Nigerian Correctional Service, with a focus on enhancing staff welfare and integrating technology-driven solutions.

AANI encouraged Nwakuche to foster collaboration with sister security agencies and relevant stakeholders to meet the core mandates of rehabilitation, security, and justice.
