Jimmy Carter, 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 is dead.
Gatekeepers News reports that U.S. media reports, citing his son, Chip Carter, revealed that Carter died on Sunday afternoon at the age of 100 in his home in Plains, Georgia.
No detail on the cause of his death has been given.
Carter whose wife, Rosalynn died in 2023 at the age of 93, is survived by his children Amy, Chip, Jack, and Jeff, along with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The former president was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia to a farmer and a nurse. Carter graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946.
Carter entered politics in the 1960s, serving in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967. He was elected Governor of Georgia in 1970 and served from 1971 to 1975.
He won the Democratic presidential nomination and defeated incumbent President Gerald Ford in the general election in 1976. As President, He focused on issues such as human rights, energy policy, and Middle East peace.
The deceased lost his re-election bid to Ronald Reagan in 1980 and returned to Georgia. He established the Carter Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting democracy, human rights, and global health alongside his wife.
Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his efforts to promote peace and human rights.
