Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central Senatorial District recently handed over Instructional materials to the Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum to cushion the effect of the flood disaster that destroyed many schools within his constituency.
Gatekeepers News reports that Senator Lawan in the wake of the flood disaster that ravaged Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere, donated the sum of N50 Million to the state government to support victims.
Presenting the Instructional materials the governor, Senator Lawan stated that public-spirited individuals and organisations should not be wary of donating to the flood victims, describing the flood as catastrophic.
According to the Senator who heads the Committee on Special said the Instructional materials will assist students whose schools were affected by the flooding to bounce back to their academic pursuits.
“As the Senator representing Borno Central, I’m duty-bound to assist my constituents especially victims of the recent flood disaster. This donation will assist many of our students and their parents as the burden of purchasing some of the Instructional materials will be lifted off their budget.
“I felt that I owe it a duty to the vulnerable children affected by the flooding to make provision for smooth continuation of their education,” Senator Lawan said.
Senator Lawan noted that the first donations he made to the state government were for immediate palliatives to assist the flood victims ” but I felt I should do more to assist my constituents hence this current donations of Instructional materials.”
Governor Zulum while receiving the donation on behalf of the state government lauded Sen. Lawan for his numerous support to his constituents and urged him not to relent in assisting his people.
“I’m aware of all the good works you’ve been doing and your contributions are not in the education sector alone but to other sectors,” Prof. Zulum said.
The educational instructional materials donated include 100 pieces of White Board, 10,000 pieces of 60 leave, Excise Books, 10,000 pieces of 40 leaves, Excise Books, 2000 Mathematical Set, 100 White Board Cleaner, 100 White Board Marker, among others.
