In what would have caused severe damage to lives and properties, the Borno State Police Command, on Thursday, successfully recovered three unexploded projectiles behind a residential building in Maiduguri, the state capital
Gatekeepers News reports that the projectiles, according to the police had the potential to destroy within a 150-metre radius, but, the police through its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD ) Unit prevented this from happening.
Unidentified Persons were alleged by the police to have dropped the explosives close to a residential building in the Dala Kafanti Area of Maiduguri.
“it’s frightening to imagine the lives and properties these explosives would have affected, but then the police responded swiftly to avert any explosion” says ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, a spokesman for the police in Borno State who spoke on the phone.
Daso in a statement revealed that ” On 2nd January 2025, at about 0925HRS, following a report received from one Asabe James of Dala Kafanti Area Maiduguri – Borno State reported to the command that she sighted a suspicious sack containing unidentified items behind her house, on receipt of the information, the Command EOD-CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri, swiftly moved to the scene, cordoned and swept the area, where three (3) projectiles were recovered in the sack.”
The Police Spokesperson revealed that preliminary Investigations ” further reveal that the Ordnance were dropped by unknown persons in the first flush of the morning on the same day.
He added that “the community members were further sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORE) and Safety measures.
“The Borno State Commissioner of Police CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal further reassures the Command’s commitment to ensuring Public safety and security.
