A former prison officer at HMP Wandsworth, London, Linda De Sousa Abreu has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for having s*x with an inmate.
Gatekeepers News reports that a clip of the incident went viral online, leading to her identification by senior prison staff and subsequent arrest.
According to Andrew Davy, Governor of Wandsworth Prison; Abreu’s actions took less than a day to undermine years of work made by female staff in all-male prisons.
The former officer who had previously pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office, was arrested at Heathrow airport while attempting to board a flight to Madrid with her father.
The incident occurred at the prison between June 26 and 28. Another recording of Abreu having s*x with the same inmate was found on her prison-issue body-worn camera. She also admitted to having done it on an additional occasion.
In his ruling, Judge Martin Edmunds KC of Isleworth Crown Court said the viral video was not an isolated incident, it is rather part of repeated behavior.
