Former U.S President Barack Obama and and President-elect Donald Trump were spotted chatting at Jimmy Carter’s funeral, a rare moment of cordiality between the two.
Gatekeepers News reports that this encounter comes after a contentious election season, where Obama had openly supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
During the election campaign, Obama also noted Trump’s privileged upbringing and referenced his financial challenges, highlighting contrasts between their backgrounds.
Despite their differences, Obama and his wife, Michelle, congratulated Trump on his ‘unexpected’ victory in the presidential election.
“We want to congratulate President Trump and Senator Vance on their victory.
“This is obviously not the outcome we had hoped for, given our profound disagreements with the Republican ticket on a whole host of issues.
“But living in a democracy is about recognising that our point of view won’t always win out and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power,” the statement reads.
