Lagos State Govt To Receive 6 Trains From China

Lagos State Government is set to receive six new train sets from China.

Gatekeepers News reports that this move will significantly boost the capacity of Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines while improving the overall rail transportation system.

Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state Governor on New Media announced this through a post on his X account.

The post reads, “Six additional train sets will arrive in Lagos very soon to strengthen the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines, delivering value to commuters and increasing the economic viability of the state.”

According to Gawat; these new trains have passed all factory acceptance tests and are now ready to be shipped to Lagos.

The spokesman said that once these trains reach Lagos, they will significantly boost the frequency of trips along the Blue Line.

He added that these trains will be pivotal in supporting passenger operations once the second phase of the Blue Line stretching from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko over 14 kilometers is completed by early 2027.

Gawat noted that the introduction of these new trains will help reduce road congestion, improve the commuter experience for the state residents, and play a key role in driving economic growth across the state.
