Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has started the distribution of gas licenses to eligible stakeholders in the sector in response to the ongoing challenges with the national power grid.

Gatekeepers News reports that the grid has experienced one collapse so far this year. This continues a concerning trend from 2024, when over ten instances of failure occurred, leaving many regions across the country without power for extended periods.

In a statement released on Monday by NMDPRA’s media unit and signed by Jemilah Adama, the agency emphasised that this initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive aimed at ensuring that all power generation assets receive the necessary gas supply. The effort is focused on enhancing the expansion and efficiency of the existing national distribution grid system.

“The authority has, however, given a note of warning to all off-takers to ensure the steady supply of gas to the generation companies or have their license revoked as no act of sabotage will be tolerated,” the statement added.
