Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, has rejected the bail conditions imposed by the Nigeria Police Force.

Gatekeepers News reports that on Monday, Sowore arrived at the police headquarters in Abuja for questioning regarding allegations that include cyberstalking, negligent acts, and intimidation.

He stated that he declined to accept the conditions, which required him to surrender his international passport and provide a level 17 civil servant as a guarantor.

Following his appearance, Sowore criticised the police for not clearly outlining the charges against him, describing the situation as a “joke.”

The police’s invitation for questioning stems from a viral video in which Sowore confronted officers who had stopped his vehicle at a checkpoint in Lagos.

Accompanied by his legal team, Sowore chose not to provide a statement during his visit to the headquarters, citing a lack of clarity on the alleged offenses. He also expressed concern that the police intended to detain him and send him to Lagos for what he termed a “kangaroo” trial. Sowore expressed his willingness to remain in police custody “pending when the joke is over.”

“The Nigeria Police Force has requested that I deposit my International Passport and provide a level 17 civil servant as a guarantor for bail, but I have declined these conditions and opted to remain in police custody,” Sowore said.

“I have rejected a bail condition asking me to present a level 17 permanent secretary, instead I have offered to remain in police custody pending when the joke is over with.”
