Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum announced on Monday that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free meeting slated for 29th January through 31st 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital.
Gatekeepers News reports that the LOC said all top security officials in Borno State have been working round the clock alongside other critical stakeholders to ensure no stone is left unturned in their quest to have a peaceful meeting.
Chairman of the LOC and Secretary to the Government of Yobe State (SSG), Alhaji Baba Wali made the announcement during a press conference held at Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre, University of Maiduguri.
According to Wali, security operatives have been deployed to all strategic roads leading to Maiduguri adding that there would be no cause for security concern for about 1000 participants expected to attend the meeting.
“We already had a meeting with all security agencies here in Borno State. So we’re sure that the security agencies will provide adequate security before, during after the meeting ” Wali said
The fifth forum, themed “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community, aims to foster dialogue, coordination, and cooperation among the affected regions.
Key discussions will include understanding current security and humanitarian trends, facilitating exits from Boko Haram-controlled areas, and accelerating the implementation of Territorial Action Plans (TAPs).
The forum will also focus on boosting cross-border trade to aid economic recovery, combating food insecurity, and addressing the impacts of illicit drug trafficking on violence.
A significant emphasis will be placed on empowering civil society organizations, especially those led by youth and women, to actively participate in recovery and resource mobilization efforts.
