Fight broke out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, during a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
Gatekeepers News reports that the altercation started when Sunday Ude-Okoye, a party chieftain, was denied access to the meeting.
Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu have been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with both laying claim to the position of national secretary.
The court of appeal ruled in December 2024 that Ude-Okoye should replace Anyanwu as national secretary, but Anyanwu has appealed the judgment and filed for a stay of execution at the supreme court.
On Wednesday, Anyanwu was present at the meeting, while Ude-Okoye was blocked from entering by Emmanuel Okoronkwo, a party protocol officer and Anyanwu’s aide.
Ude-Okoye’s supporters scaled the fence into the secretariat premises, overpowering Okoronkwo and others.
Security personnel struggled to maintain order, but Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the BoT, and Umar Damagum, PDP chairman, were among those who attended the meeting.
