Mid-air collision occurred near Reagan National Airport outside of Washington, DC, involving an American Airlines passenger plane and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

Gatekeepers News reports that the plane, American Airlines Flight 5342, was approaching the runway with 64 people on board when the collision happened.

Fatalities have been confirmed, and rescuers are still working to recover survivors from the water. The plane is reported to be in pieces in the water, with the helicopter nearby.

The American Airlines flight had departed from Wichita, Kansas, with 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter was on a training flight with three soldiers on board.

As a result of the incident, all takeoffs and landings have been halted at Reagan National Airport.
