17 Almajiri students in the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State have died after a fire outbreak.
Gatekeepers News reports that the fire ignited late on Tuesday night and burned for approximately three hours, leading to significant casualties, with other students reported injured.
Zagazola Makama, security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, confirmed the incident on Wednesday via the X platform.
Sharing pictures of the students’ remains, Zagazola wrote said eyewitnesses described the fire as devastating, noting that efforts to contain it were hampered by its intensity.
“Local authorities and emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide assistance, but the inferno had already caused severe casualties,” it wrote.
The deceased students are expected to be buried today, Wednesday.
