Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has implemented a new policy requiring underage but exceptionally brilliant candidates to undergo four additional examinations before securing admission into higher institution.
Gatekeepers News reports that JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede disclosed this during an inspection tour of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Oloyede said such candidates must sign an indemnity letter before taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and those who fail to meet the required standards will face sanctions.
He said, “Initially, we wanted to block under-16 candidates from writing the UTME, but how do you identify exceptionally brilliant ones if they aren’t given a chance? That’s why we implemented this policy with an indemnity requirement.”
The registrar disclosed that 4,997 candidates under the age of 16 had registered as of Monday and warned parents not to use their children for selfish ambitions.
Oloyede also issued a stern warning to CBT centre operators against blank registrations, false allegations against JAMB, data violations, and night registrations.
He added, “We sanctioned six CBT centres for blank registrations and attempted exam malpractice. We have now blacklisted the responsible staff—they will never be involved in JAMB activities again.”
