Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has denied rumours regarding his alleged involvement with Big Brother Naija reality star, Nengi Hampson, who recently confirmed her pregnancy.
Gatekeepers News reports that Nengi responded to the circulating rumours, clarifying that they are false and stating that the pregnancy is not connected to any Nigerian governor. Despite her clarification, the rumours have persisted online.
In response to this situation, Dr Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, the Director-General of New Media for the governor, addressed the issue in a Facebook post on Monday evening.
He labelled the claims as unfounded and emphasised that there is no personal relationship between the governor and the reality star.
Oredipe further criticised the dissemination of false information, attributing the rumours to individuals seeking to undermine the governor during the celebrations for his 5th anniversary in office. He condemned the misuse of social media as a platform for spreading misinformation.
“Political enemies of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work again. What a wicked set of people spreading falsehood on a day the Prosperity Administration commenced activities marking its 5th anniversary.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor. Nengi has come out on social media to debunk the lies. This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media.”
