Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has extended his congratulations to Morotoluwa Ojomo, a Nigerian-born American football player, following his victory with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. The Eagles secured a 40-22 win against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday in New Orleans.

Gatekeepers News reports that Super Bowl 59 represents the championship game of the National Football League (NFL) in the United States. With this win, the Philadelphia Eagles interrupted the Chiefs’ pursuit of a historic third consecutive NFL title.

Morotoluwa Ojomo, who was born in Lagos, played a role in the Eagles’ success, marking the team’s second Super Bowl victory in their history.

In a message on social media platform X, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Ojomo’s accomplishments as a source of pride for Lagos and Nigeria on the global stage. He emphasised that Ojomo’s achievements highlight the limitless potential of individuals from Lagos.

“Congratulations to Morotoluwa Ojomo, a proud Lagos-born talent, for becoming a Super Bowl Champion with the Philadelphia Eagles!” the tweet reads.

Ojomo was born in Lagos in 2001 and moved to California with his family at the age of seven. In 2023, he was drafted into the NFL as the 11th overall pick and subsequently joined the Philadelphia Eagles. With this latest Super Bowl victory, Ojomo joins the ranks of other Nigerian-born athletes with NFL titles, including C.J. Uzomah, Chukwuebuka Godrick, Chris Oladokun, and Charles Omenihu.
