NEDC Enhances Staff Capacity With Procurement Training

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) on Saturday concluded a three-day training for its staff, focusing on procurement procedure and processes with a view achieving greater out in the discharge of their duties.

Gatekeepers News reports that the NEDC said the training also provided avenue for the staff of the Commission to get acquainted with relevant laws surrounding procurement.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director (MD)and Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Alh Mohammed Alkali, during the closing ceremony of the training held at the Golden Sand Hotel, Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

According to Alkali, the training will assist the NEDC staff to understand what is required of them with regards to procurement procedures and avoid unnecessary pitfalls while carrying out procurement in their various departments.

“This training will assist all staff to understand and follow the guidelines with regards to procurement. It will help staff understand the consequences of not following through procurement guidelines as well,” Alkali said

Buhari Dahiru, NEDC Head of Procurement added that the training is aimed at making procurement more effective and efficient for the Commission, pointing out that staff drawn from different departments within the NEDC will be better equipped with procurement procedures.

Dahiru listed some of the benefits of the training to include “paticipants will have better understanding of why the present procurement law as against the act of purchasing and supply that hitherto exist, paticipants will get to know nine (9) essential steps of procurement with value addition amongst others.”

Naomi Abwaku, one of the participants, commended the NEDC for organizing the training for her and her colleagues, noting that she’s better equipped with procurement law.

“This training couldn’t have come at a better time, the NEDC has provided participants with greater knowledge with regards to procurement procedures. We will utilise the knowledge gained in the discharge of our duties,” Abwaku said.
