Federal Government of Nigeria will soon commence new development interventions across the North East Region to make life easier for residents, the Minister of State, Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmodu has said.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ahmodu revealed that the Federal Government will also fast-track the completion of ongoing projects across the region that has suffered massive destruction of infrastructures from over 15 years old Insurgency.
This was disclosed when the Minister visited the Borno State Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur at the Government House, Maiduguri, the state capital.
The Minister revealed that Borno State holds a special place in the developmental agenda of the Ministry of Regional Development and the North East Development Commission ( NEDC) following activities of Boko Haram terrorists that had led to the destruction of lives and properties.
“We intend to intensify collaborations to fast-track ongoing projects, initiate new interventions where necessary and work with local stakeholders to ensure that development is inclusive and impactful,” Ahmodu said.
The Minister added that the Federal Government’s Interventions through the Ministry of Regional Development will align with the state’s priorities and aspirations of the citizens.
“Our visit today is a demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priority and his administration’s commitment to working in synergy with the state government to accelerate development, restore livelihood and strengthen peace-building efforts.
“Through the NEDC, we’re implementing key interventions in infrastructure, Education, Healthcare and economic empowerment to support the rebuilding process,” Ahmodu said
The Minister who is in Borno State on a three-day visit to inspect NEDC projects said his Ministry is ready to support the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) to bounce back to normalcy before the institution was ravaged by flood last September.
“We will go back and put heads together, and for those we can handle immediately, we will surely do that but for those we cannot handle we will refer upstairs,” the Minister told UMTH Chief Medical Director, Ahmed Ahijo who had lamented that the flood disaster destroyed hospital equipment worth over N13 Billion.
Other projects inspected by the Minister include the Burn Centre and Maternity Ward at UMTH, Central Medical Store ( Pharma Grade), Female Maternal Ward and Child Care Centre at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, amongst others where he pledged the Federal Government Continued support.
