Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has denied rumours of her resignation, saying she’s still very much in office.
Gatekeepers News reports that the rumour mill started churning after an online report claimed she had stepped down, and a circular dated February 17, 2025, supposedly from Meranda, was shared on social media.
However, her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, refuted the claim, saying, “I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from.”
The assembly complex was tense on Monday, with increased security presence ahead of plenary.
Lawmakers even passed a vote of confidence in Meranda’s leadership in response to the rumours.
Meanwhile, ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa still refuses to accept his removal, claiming due process wasn’t followed.
