Gov. Okpebholo Signs New Laws To Improve Infrastructure And Tackle Kidnapping In Edo
Edo State Government, under the leadership of Monday Okpebholo, has taken significant steps towards development and security with the passage of four new laws.

Gatekeepers News reports that State House of Assembly passed bills establishing the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA) and the State Roads Fund, which will manage and maintain roads in the state.

These laws are part of the state’s efforts to qualify for a $500 million World Bank grant for rural agricultural development projects, with the potential to access up to $30 million in funding.

In addition to the road development laws, the state assembly has also passed laws repealing the Electricity Law 2022 and establishing the Edo State Electricity Market, Regulatory Commission, Electrification Agency, and Electricity Transmission Company. This move empowers the Edo State Government to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity, marking a significant step forward in the state’s energy sector.

Furthermore, the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law 2025 has been passed, which imposes harsher penalties for kidnapping and abduction, including the death sentence and confiscation of property and assets.

These new laws, signed within the first 100 days, demonstrate Okpebholo’s commitment to delivering on his campaign promises and ensuring the dividends of democracy are delivered to the people of Edo State.
