Ukraine Truce Possible Within Weeks – Macron

President Of France, Emmanuel Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed optimism that a truce between Ukraine and Russia could be agreed upon within weeks.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Macron while speaking to Fox News in Washington, emphasised that any peace deal must “not be a surrender of Ukraine” and should include security guarantees.

Macron’s comments came after a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. Trump suggested that the war could end “within weeks” and insisted that Europe should bear the cost and burden of any peacekeeping deal for Ukraine.

The French president also revealed that he had spoken with 30 European leaders and allies, many of whom are willing to provide security guarantees for Ukraine. Macron is working with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on a proposal to send troops to the region.

“We want peace swiftly, but we don’t want an agreement that is weak,” Macron said.

In a joint news conference, Trump and Macron agreed that any peace deal should include the deployment of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine. However, Russia has rejected this suggestion outright.
