US Sides With Russia In UN Resolutions On Ukraine
United States has surprisingly sided with Russia in two UN resolutions regarding Ukraine, marking a significant shift in the Trump administration’s stance on the war.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the change in position has caused tension among US allies, particularly in Europe.

The US opposed a European-drafted resolution condemning Russia’s actions and supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity, voting alongside Russia, North Korea, and Belarus at the UN General Assembly (UNGA). Instead, the US drafted and voted for a resolution at the UN Security Council calling for an end to the conflict without criticizing Russia.

The Security Council passed the US resolution, but key US allies like the UK and France abstained after their attempts to amend the wording were vetoed. Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa emphasised, “We need to reconfirm that the aggression should be condemned and discredited, not rewarded.”

The UNGA passed the European resolution with 93 votes, but the US voted against it, along with Russia and 11 other states. The US also abstained from voting on its own resolution after it was amended to include language supporting Ukraine.

America’s acting envoy to the UN, Dorothy Camille Shea, described the US resolution as a “simple historic statement… that looks forward, not backwards. A resolution focused on one simple idea: ending the war.”

These developments have exposed a significant rift between the US and its European allies, with the US seemingly currying favour with Moscow and casting doubt on its long-term commitment to European security.
