Operatives of Kano Police Command have arrested 17 suspected thugs over a planned protest at Nassarawa Palace, residence of Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano.
Gatekeepers News reports that a high court in Kano had on May 2024, restrained Bayero from parading himself as the emir of Kano following the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II.
Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano state police command on Wednesday, warned residents to shelve the planned protest.
The spokesman said adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the state.
He said, “The command wishes to warn all individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence.”
“Such actions will be met with a swift and decisive response from the security agencies.”
“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety.”
