Aviation workers in Nigeria have urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the payment of outstanding entitlements to former employees of the defunct national carrier, Nigeria Airways.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC) Chairman, Comrade Hector Nnadi, made the appeal at the 11th edition of the Aviation Workers’ Week and Award Night in Abuja.

Nnadi stated that despite multiple attempts to secure payment through the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the efforts have yielded no results. He emphasized that the delayed payment has caused financial difficulties for many former employees, with some passing away while waiting for their entitlements.

“We are sending an SOS to Mr. President for his urgent intervention to resolve this matter and become an ‘Aviation Workers’ Hero,'” Nnadi said. He acknowledged the minister’s ongoing efforts but urged the president to take immediate action.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, reaffirmed his commitment to unionism and the welfare of aviation workers. Kana emphasized the importance of dialogue, saying, “Please always embrace the culture of dialogue. It is always better to JAW-JAW than WAR-WAR.”
