Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo state has approved the reconstitution of the Governing Council of Edo University, Iyamho
Gatekeepers News reports that this was announced in a statement released by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq, Secretary to the State Government on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
According to the statement; the Governing Council will be inaugurated by Governor Okpebholo on a date to be announced later.
Prof. Olusegun O. Akinyinka, mni was appointed as Chairman. Other members of the governing council include Prof. Solomon Owumi, Most Rev. Bishop Donatus Ogun, Prof. (Mrs.) Lilian Salami, Prof. Paul Idornigie, SAN, Dr. (Mrs.) Umemetu Momoh, Prof. Francis Egbokhar
Prof. Olusegun O. Akinyinka, mni holds an MBBS Degree from the University of Ibadan in 1978 and he is a Fellow of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College in Paediatrics (FMCPaed). He also obtained a Ph.D in Pharmacology at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 1996
He was the 9th Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and the Pioneer Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Edo University, Iyamho, Edo State.
He is a transformative leader, having held several leadership positions in academic institutions and professional medical organizations, spearheading initiatives that promote medical excellence and innovations.
Prof. Solomon Owumi is a renowned scholar in the field of Biochemistry, specializing in biochemical toxicology and molecular genetics.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan, where he also obtained his Master’s and Doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees in Biochemistry.
Prof. Owumi serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. His research focuses on Chemical Carcinogenesis and Molecular Toxicology and he has numerous publications in reputable Scientific Journals.
Most Rev. Bishop Donatus Ogun is a respected Catholic Bishop dedicated to spiritual leadership and community development. After attending primary and secondary schools in Benin City, he worked for a short period. In 1986, he started the Postulancy in the Convent of the Augustinian Fathers of Jos, then entered the Novitiate in 1988.
He completed his studies in philosophy and Theology at St. Augustine Major Seminary in Jos. He was ordained a priest on July 31, 1993.
After his ordination, Most Rev. Bishop Donatus Ogun served in several pastoral and academic roles. He is currently the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Uromi, Edo State.
Prof. Lilian Imuetiyan Salami is a Nigerian Academic, seasoned Administrator, and Professor of Home Economics/Nutritional Education.
She obtained a B.Sc (Hons) in Home Economics and an M.Sc in Nutrition respectively from the North Dakota State University, United States of America. She also has a Ph.D in Human Nutrition from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from University of Benin, and a Post Doctoral Degree.
Prof. Lilian Imuetiyan Salami was the Director General/Chief Executive, National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) and the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, Edo State.
Professor Paul Idornigie is a reputable University Scholar, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and an Author.
He obtained his LL.B (Hons) from the University of Jos, Nigeria in 1992 and was called to the Bar in 1993. Subsequently, he obtained an LL.M and a Ph.D from the same Institution between 1993 and 2002. He holds a doctorate in International Commercial Arbitration.
Professor Paul Idornigie is presently a Professor of Commercial Law at Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, Nigeria.
Dr. (Mrs.) Umemetu Momoh is an Educationist per excellence and a dedicated researcher.
She obtained the National Certificate of Education (English and Social Studies) from the Advanced Teachers College, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a B.Ed Language Arts (English) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, M.Ed (Educational Management) and a Ph.D (Educational Administration) respectively from the University of Benin.
Dr. (Mrs.) Umemetu Momoh is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education University of Benin, Benion City.
Prof. Francis Egbokhare is a prolific scholar, academic linguist, writer, and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.
He attended the University of Benin, Benin City for his Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree and the University of Ibadan for his Master of Arts (MA) and Ph.D respectively.
Prof. Francis Egbokhare has held positions at the University of Ibadan for many years as a Professor of Linguistics and as the Director of the Distance Learning Centre. He is the President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters and the Open Distance and E-learning Association of Nigeria. He is also the President of the Naija Language Academy, devoted to the study of Nigerian Pidgin.
