Uganda Declares Ebola Outbreak "Contained" As 8 Patients Recover

A four-year-old child has died in Uganda from Ebola outbreak, marking the second confirmed case in the country.

Gatekeepers News reports that World Health Organisation (WHO) in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that the child passed away on February 25.

According to WHO; the incident happened at the Mulago referral hospital in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

It added, “Our teams are working with @MinofHealthUG and partners to strengthen surveillance, active case searching, contact listing and tracing, infection, prevention and control in health facilities, case management and community engagement to halt the spread of the virus.”

No further details were given about the child’s death.

Sudan Ebola outbreak was declared on January 30 in Uganda.

Authorities had on January 31, announced that a nurse died seeking treatment at various medical facilities after developing fever-like symptoms in Kampala.

Tracing contacts is key to stemming the spread of Ebola, and there are no approved vaccines for the Sudan strain of Ebola that is infecting people in Uganda.

Ten districts, including Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, Luwero, Mbale City, Mbale District, Iganga, Jinja City, Jinja District, and Kakumiro, have been identified as high-risk areas.
