Singer Angie Stone Is Dead

Angela Laverne Stone popularly known as Angie Stone, legendary singer and pivotal member of the pioneering hip-hop trio ‘The Sequence’ has passed away.

Gatekeepers News reports that her representative, Deborah R. Champagne announced her demise.

The 63-year-old singer was involved in a fatal car accident early Saturday morning, shortly after performing in Montgomery, Alabama.

The incident occurred while she was on her way to another gig at the CIAA basketball tournament in Baltimore.

Her spokesperson said in a statement, “Angie Stone’s voice and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched.”

“Details regarding memorial services will be announced by the family in due course.

Angie Stone was born in Columbia, South Carolina. Her entertainment career began in the late ’70s as a member of The Sequence, a pioneering female rap group behind the hit “Funk You Up.”

She later moved on to neo-soul and R&B music as a solo artist with albums including “Black Diamond” in 1999 and “Mahogany Soul” in 2001.

Angie Stone is survived by two children, Diamond and Michael.
