President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation.
Gatekeepers News reports that this decision was announced in a statement on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
Ogunjimi’s appointment is set to take effect on March 7, coinciding with the retirement of the current Accountant-General, Oluwatoyin Madein.
Onanuga explained that Ogunjimi was selected to succeed Madein after undergoing a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based selection process conducted by a committee.
“The committee conducted the process through three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews,” the statement reads.
“The selection process underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.”
According to the presidency, Ogunjimi possesses a bachelor of science (BSc) in accountancy and a master’s in finance and accounting.
He is a chartered accountant, a certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and investment specialist.
Prior to this appointment, he served as the director of funds at the office of the accountant general, and director of finance and accounts at the ministry of finance.
