Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central, has said her suspension from the senate was illegal.
Gatekeepers News reports that Akpabio and Natasha engaged in a heated debate on the floor of the house over a change in seating arrangements.
Natasha during an interview on Friday, February 28, alleged that her ordeal with the Senate president began after she rejected his s*xual advances.
Following her claims, Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, Natasha’s husband backed the allegations, saying Akpabio continued to harass his wife despite their friendship.
On Wednesday, March 5, she tendered a s*xual harassment petition against Akpabio on the floor of the house.
On Thursday, the senate referred Akpoti-Uduaghan to the committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions for disciplinary review, and she was suspended for six months.
Senator Natasha in a post on Facebook On Thursday, said the suspension does not affect her legitimacy as a senator.
The legislator vowed to continue serving her constituency regardless of the s*xual allegation controversy.
She wrote, “Against the culture of silence, intimidation and victim-shaming; my unjust suspension from the Nigerian senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness and equity.”
“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027… and beyond.”
