Corps Member Apologises For Saying “Lagos Is Smelling”

A TikToker and member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ushie Uguamaye, known as Raye, has apologised for saying Lagos is smelling.

Gatekeepers News reports that Raye made the remark which sparked mixed reactions, in a TikTok post where she lamented the economic hardship faced by Nigerians under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The corper said the video was part of a 30-day rant challenge to call the attention of authorities to the plight faced by Nigerians.

Following backlash from people, the corper apologised, saying she did not intend to demean Lagos.

She wrote, “I want to first of all state that I am sorry to the people who were born and raised in Lagos State if you feel offended by what I said. I am sorry.”

“But as a visitor here, I could tell there was a difference in the atmosphere and quality of air here. If the way that I put it triggered your emotions and the love for your birth state, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to talk down on your birth state.”

Raye was on Sunday summoned to appear before the NYSC Local Government Inspectors concerning her 30-day rant challenge.

She was accompanied by three lawyers and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
