Cross River Rejects South-South Governor’s Opposition To Rivers Emergency

Cross River State has dissociated itself from the opposition of Rivers emergency by South South Governors’ forum.

Gatekeepers News reports that Peter Odey, the acting Governor of the state in a statement on Friday by Fred Abua, his press secretary, said he doesn’t align with the position of the forum.

On Thursday, March 20, the forum asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse the emergency rule declared in Rivers which was due to the prolonged political crisis and vandalisation of oil installations.

The Cross Rivers Governor said the forum did not seek his opinion before taking a position, adding that “As such, the position of the forum does not reflect the views of the Government of Cross River State.”

The Governor noted that he fully aligns with Tinubu’s decision which was taken in the “best interest of national security, peace, and stability.”

He said, “Every responsible government must prioritize the protection of lives and property, and where circumstances necessitate decisive action, such measures should be supported for the greater good of our democracy and national unity.”

Odey further said Cross River remains committed to upholding constitutional governance and will continue to collaborate with the federal government in ensuring peace, security, and stability across the country.

Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State had also dissociated the state from the position of the forum, saying Tinubu’s decision would bring lasting peace to Rivers.
