Flight operations have resumed at Heathrow Airport, London, after a power failure caused the facility to shut down on Friday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the airport announced the resumption of services through a post on X on Saturday.
It wrote, “Flights have resumed at Heathrow, and we are open and fully operational. All terminals and all car parks are open across Heathrow.”
“Teams across the airport continue to do everything they can to support passengers impacted by yesterday’s outage at an off-airport power substation.”
“Passengers travelling today should check with their airline for the latest information regarding their flight.”
Flight operations were disrupted from Thursday night after a fire at an offsite electrical substation triggered a major power outage, resulting in flight delays and a complete shutdown on Friday.
Explaining the situation, Heathrow Airport spokesperson said, “We have no choice but to close Heathrow until 23:59 on 21 March 2025.”
“We know this will be disappointing for passengers and we want to reassure you that we are working as hard as possible to resolve the situation.”
“Whilst fire crews are responding to the incident, we do not have clarity on when power may be reliably restored.”
The airport apologised for the disruption and advised passengers to contact their airlines for further information.
