Constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District have submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing loss of confidence in her representation.
Gatekeepers News reports that the petition, presented by Charity Ijese on behalf of the constituents, was received by INEC’s Secretary, Rose Anthony, on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The constituents stated that the petition is brought pursuant to Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall Petitions.
They alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions have embarrassed the people of Kogi Central, tarnished the integrity of the Nigerian Senate, and undermined the nation’s democratic institutions.
The petitioners claimed that over 250,000 registered voters in Kogi Central, more than half of the total registered voters, have signed the petition.
They demanded that INEC commence the constitutional and procedural process of recall to remove Akpoti-Uduaghan from office and declare her seat vacant.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months by the Senate for misconduct, following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment and abuse of office.
