Senate has confirmed Sylvester Nwakuche as the new Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
Gatekeepers News reports that this decision follows his appointment by President Bola Tinubu on December 13, 2024, which was made in light of the retirement of Haliru Nababa.
The confirmation took place after the Senate Committee on Interior, chaired by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, submitted its report for review.
During a plenary session held on Tuesday, lawmakers unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation, thus approving Nwakuche’s appointment.
In his announcement of the confirmation, Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio emphasised the crucial role Nwakuche has in ensuring the security of correctional facilities across the nation.
Akpabio expressed optimism that under Nwakuche’s leadership, the frequent jailbreaks that have plagued the country would soon become a thing of the past.
