Edo Broadcasting Service Condemns Govt Appointees' Refusal To Engage With Journalists

Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) has announced a significant change to its programming, officially declaring the cessation of its News Commentary segment, effective 1st April 2025.

Gatekeepers News reports that this decision was unveiled in an official release signed by the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Sulaiman Aledeh.

In a bid to enhance the quality of broadcasting and align with contemporary global practices in radio journalism, EBS will replace the News Commentary with a new format focusing on editorial positions addressing substantial issues that impact the people of Edo, Nigeria, and the world at large.

Aledeh said in the release, “The current format of our News Commentary has become outdated.”

“It no longer serves the dynamic needs of our audience or the complexity of issues we face today. By adopting a more structured editorial approach, we aim to focus on major topics with gravity, ensuring our analysis is relevant, insightful, and reflective of the concerns of our community.”

The introduction of the editorial format will allow EBS to thoroughly explore significant topics, particularly those requiring urgent attention, such as the recent declaration of a state of emergency on education by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Aledeh said, “Our new approach will inform our audience and empower them to engage thoughtfully with pressing matters.”

The frequency of these editorials will be based on the importance of the issues at hand, rather than on a daily schedule, ensuring that discussions remain serious and impactful. “That’s our editorial on this. Chew on it!” will become the closing remark of these segments, inviting listeners to ponder the presented viewpoints.

Listeners who wish to contribute commentary on various topics are encouraged to utilise EBS’s online platform. Approved submissions will be featured on the station’s opinion pages, accompanied by a disclaimer to clarify that such pieces do not reflect the official stance of EBS.

Aledeh concluded, “This transition is essential for fostering a more informed and engaged community.”

“By prioritising substantial analysis over mere commentary, we are committed to providing our listeners with content that truly resonates and matters.”
